Immigration departments use them to issue residential and work visas, medical and licensing agencies use them for professional certification purposes, and individuals use them to measure their progress in learning English. Each university and institutions set their own minimum level of acceptable performance. What does TOEFL IBT test consist of?

TOEFL IBT Test consists of four sections: reading, listening, speaking and writing. It will take four hours to finish the whole test and all four sections are taken on the same day. The total score is 120 points. Each section worth 30 points. Students are expected to understand academic materials written in English. The reading section usually lasts from 60 to 100 minutes and consists of 3 to 5 texts. The purposes for academic reading are to effectively scan text for key facts and information and increase reading fluency, understand general topic or main idea and make inferences about what is implied in the passage. You need to understand relationships between ideas and infer how thoughts in the text are connected. The listening section usually lasts 60 to 90 minutes and consists of 6 texts generally.
